<dc:description>The Pop-up Pergola - a temporary spatial installation in the public space of the Krš settlement (a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina) in Trebinje, highlights the values of architectural heritage in the direction of sustainable cultural tourism development through activating open public spaces. It represents an experimental model of action in sensitive areas of cultural heritage and simulates possibilities for activating other public spaces using co-creative spatial tactics with the engagement of the local community. The construction was a central part of the first StartArt! Festival, held 3-7/7/2023, within the framework of the H2020 TExTOUR project co-financed by the European Commission.

The project was entirely designed and executed by students, who had the opportunity to gain practical knowledge on conceptualizing and designing small-scale projects with an emphasis on learning through implementation. In this case, design was not perceived as a commodity, and the role of the architect shifted from a passive position of being paid to produce ideas for the market on behalf of someone else to the domain of socially beneficial behavior in the encounter of architecture and activism.
